Victoria's Driftwood named top standalone brewery in B.C.

Driftwood Brewery in Victoria's Rock Bay neighbourhood has been named the top brewery (non-brew pub) in B.C. for the third straight year by the Vancouver chapter of Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

CAMRA’s membership votes on the awards at its January general meeting. The Vancouver group's awards are not as celebrated as the B.C. Beer Awards in October, but that event does not have a best brewery award.

Driftwood won the award in 2011 and 2012, after finishing second behind Victoria's Philips Brewery in 2010.

Driftwood’s Fat Tug IPA won gold for best beer (available year-round) and its Singularity Russian Imperial Stout (January) and Sartori Harvest IPA (fall) won gold and silver, respectively, for best seasonal brews.

Victoria-based Joe Wiebe, the Thirsty Writer, won bronze as best beer writer or blogger.
