Model warship parade on Victoria pond pays homage to casualties
Those who died during the longest continuous battle during the Second World War will soon be commemorated by the Victoria Model Shipbuilding Society.
The society’s fourth annual tribute to the Battle of the Atlantic happens Sunday, May 6 at 10:45 a.m., at Harrison Pond, on Dallas Road near the foot of Government Street.
There will be a minute of silence and a speech in honour of the sailors of the Royal Canadian Navy and Canada’s Merchant Navy who lost their lives during the battle.
Models of warships will be on parade in the pond, in recognition of the Canadian ships that were sunk by German U-boats and bomber aircraft, as allied and German forces fought for control of the Atlantic Ocean.
