The renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater makes a triumphant return to Victoria this week with two shows filled with a variety of dances spanning more than 50 years.

The highlight of the performances tonight and Wednesday (March 22-23) at the Royal Theatre is Revelations, a piece choreographed by Ailey and first performed in 1960. His masterpiece tells the story of African-American faith and tenacity from slavery to freedom through a suite of dances set to spirituals and blues music.

A different repertoire is planned for each evening.

For dance fans wanting to get a more intimate understanding of the company and its works, pre-show chats with dancers Guillermo "Moe" Asca (March 22) and Hope Boykin (March 23) happen in the lobby of the Royal at 6:50 p.m.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m. both nights. Tickets range from $60 to $115 and are available at the Royal and McPherson box offices, by phone at 250-386-6121 or online at www.rmts.bc.ca. More information can be found at www.dancevictoria.com.
