LETTER: Bike lanes hurt business

Once again, we see the current administration in Victoria doing its best to destroy the business community in downtown Victoria with the proposal of new bicycle lanes. The purpose, according to their thinking, is to reduce the number of vehicles in the city.

Once again, we see the current administration in Victoria doing its best to destroy the business community in downtown Victoria with the proposal of new bicycle lanes. The purpose, according to their thinking, is to reduce the number of vehicles in the city.

People on bicycles generally do not stop and go to the stores to buy clothes, furniture or other items, since they have no way of transporting them home.

Business needs customers. Without customers, the business would fail.

Whether the customer uses a gas-powered or electric-powered vehicle, they still need be able to to come to Victoria to shop. The business community needs customers to survive. The mayor and council do not seem to get this fact. They sit in the council chambers and continue to make dumb decisions without any thought to the outcome of those decisions.
