Sidney set to sparkle

Gear up to get into the festive season — the Sidney Sparkles Santa Parade and Lighted Boat Parade are kicking off the wintery celebrations this weekend.

This Saturday, Nov. 30 the Santa Parade begins at 5 p.m. along Beacon Avenue. The parade is followed by the sail past of lighted boats which begins around 6 p.m. and can be viewed from the Sidney waterfront.

Both events, organized by the Sidney Celebrations Society, draw thousands of residents and visitors to Sidney each year.

But that’s not it for festive events. On Friday, Nov. 29, the Sidney Merchants are hosting their annual open house from 5 to 8 p.m. at shops all over Sidney. More information on the open house can be found at www.distinctlysidney.ca.

To top off the season, on Jan. 1, 2014 at noon at the waterfront on Lochside Drive just south of Tulista Park brave members of the community can participate in the annual Polar Bear Swim.
