West Shore RCMP has announced S/Sgt. Larry Chomyn as the new commander for the detachment.

Chomyn has been an officer with the RCMP for the past 20 years, working in Campbell River, 100 Mile House, North Cowichan and, most recently, in Ladysmith. He has experience with front line police work, along with general duty, serious crime, street crime and property crime units.

"I am looking forward to assuming command of the West Shore detachment and building on the strong relationships we have with the communities we serve," said Chomyn in a statement. "We have an experienced and committed team of officers and staff … and it will be a privilege to lead them."

Chomyn will be moving to the West Shore with his wife of 27 years and their two teenage daughters, and he will be commissioned to the rank of Investigator shortly.
