Huckin’ it up on the West Shore

West Shore Pickup Ultimate is back for another season, running on Fridays from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. at the Colwood elementary school field (2129 Sooke Rd.). The first game of the year saw 20 people come out, a solid showing for the event. “Half or so came from downtown,” said organizer Leigh Garrod. “It was great, it’s nice to see and hopefully we get more of that, but I’d also like to see more folks out from the West Shore, because that’s why we’re doing it.” Beginners are always welcome at the free event, where more experienced players will be on hand to show you the ropes. Soccer cleats are recommended, as is some water. Bring one light coloured and one dark coloured shirt, as that’s how the teams are divided. “It’s a great way to end off the work week, get some frustrations out perhaps and just get out and get some exercise,” Garrod said. Regulars are encouraged to register as members of Victoria Ultimate Players Society online at vups.usetopscore.com. - Black Press file photo
