Operation of Esquimalt yard waste facility changing hands
Esquimalt’s yard and garden waste transfer station, which the township has cost-shared with View Royal since 2006, will soon have a new operator.
The 10-year-old facility at 605 Canteen Rd. will close to residents until 8 a.m. on Monday (July 4), while Ellis Recycling sets up shop at the disposal site.
The contract for the facility’s operation expired last December, and Esquimalt council recently awarded the Victoria company a five-year contract at a cost of nearly $650,000.
Under the current cost-sharing agreement between the neighbouring municipalities, Esquimalt pays about $438,000 while View Royal pays $243,000 over a five-year period.
