Cougar spotted near Esquimalt school
There were no recess breaks at Macaulay elementary school Thursday, after a cougar was spotted in the area.
The school kept its doors shut after a CFB Esquimalt employee reported seeing a cougar in the area, near the military housing on the base.
The sighting was not confirmed.
Another cougar was shot and killed on Sept. 5 after campers reported seeing a large cat in the same area several times over the weekend. Campers threw stones at the animal to try to scare it off, but were unsuccessful.
Conservation officers don’t believe that is the same cat spotted in the Happy Valley area of Langford the previous week. There was another sighting reported in Esquimalt’s Highrock Park over the Labour Day long weekend.
