New Vic West crossing replaces overpass detour

As planned, the city will install a new signal crossing in Vic West to help pedestrians and cyclists navigate around the now-defunct rail bridge.

It takes effect Monday, Dec. 19 at 9 a.m.

The crossing, activated by a push button, allows pedestrians to safely cross Esquimalt Road, at the intersection of Harbour Road, to access the sidewalk on the still-functioning traffic bridge. Cyclists also have a push-button of their own to safely enter the east-bound traffic lane on the bridge.

The new signal crossing replaces the circuitous route using the rail overpass. This detour was introduced by the city after it decommissioned the rail bridge in April.

Motorists, pedestrians and cyclists are advised to be cautious while they familiarize themselves with the new intersection.
