Victoria police chief slaps Porsche driver with excessive-speeding fines

A Porsche driver with a lead foot was pulled over by Victoria Police Chief Const. Jamie Graham on the Patricia Bay Highway on Feb. 1 for excessive speeding.
After he disembarked from a B.C. Ferries vessel, he was clocked at more than 140 kilometres an hour near MacDonald Park Road, before letting the speedometer needle climb to 160 km/hr.
Unbeknownst to him, Victoria Police Chief Const. Jamie Graham was driving an unmarked police car behind him.
“And if that wasn’t bad enough the chief’s passengers were B.C. Superintendent of Motor Vehicles Steve Martin, the Motor Vehicle Director of Hearings and Fair Practice Stephanie Melvin, as well as the B.C. police liaison to the Motor Vehicle branch, Saanich Const. Bima Ribeiro,” Victoria Deputy Police Chief John Ducker said on the department’s online operations blog Tuesday (Feb. 14).
“They were on their way home from a B.C. Traffic Safety Committee meeting on the Lower Mainland.”
Graham pulled the driver over, and handed him almost $1,000 in fines for excessive speeding, unsafe lane changes and failing to signal. The Porsche was impounded for seven days.
