Johnson Street Bridge funding announcement Saturday
Mums the word on an "important announcement" Saturday about funding the Johnson Street Bridge, but the players involved give some clues.
Present will be a representative of the Union of British Columbia Municipalities, as well as Oak Bay MLA Ida Chong.
The city is waiting to hear back about a grant of up to $16.5 million to be put towards the multi-use trail and bike paths on the Johnson Street Bridge replacement.
The city applied for funding through the federal-provincial gas tax fund, administered by the UBCM.
In July 2011, the Capital Regional District supported the city's application for an amount of $8 million.
The board felt the region's $18.55 million gas-tax allocation should be split between three projects: the Johnson Street Bridge, Craigflower Bridge, and the regional sustainability strategy.
The funding announcement takes place at 10 a.m. at the Johnson Street Bridge construction site at 203 Harbour Rd.
