Accused child killer to be tried in Victoria
The trial of a Campbell River father accused of killing his seven-year-old son will take place in Victoria.
Brent Warren is charged with first degree murder in the death of his son Jonathon.
According to Campbell River RCMP, police were called to the home in the 2600 block of South Alder St., on July 27, 2011, at about 2:30 a.m.
The boy was found suffering from serious injures and was rushed to hospital where he later died.
His 43-year-old father was charged with murder and appeared in Campbell River provincial court the following day. He was remanded in custody and has been held behind bars since his arrest.
A pre-trial conference took place Wednesday, in B.C. Supreme Court
in Nanaimo, and the case was officially transferred to Victoria.
It is expected Warren will face trial by judge and jury in B.C. Supreme Court.
According to the Nanaimo Court Registry, trial dates have not been set. Trial dates could be set at Warren’s next court appearance, Aug. 15, in Victoria.
