Hesjedal celebration includes parade through downtown Victoria
The community is invited to a welcome home party Friday (Aug. 10) and a celebration of competitive cyclist Ryder Hesjedal’s victory in the Giro D’Italia back in May.
The Belmont secondary grad has been in Europe since scoring his big win and recently finished mid-pack in the Olympic road race and time trial events.
A parade beginning at the Victoria Marriott hotel on Humboldt Street starts at 3:30 p.m. and travels to Government Street then north to Centennial Square.
Activities on tap there include a red carpet arrival, a public conversation with Hesjedal, his family and coaches and a Q & A session with the audience.
There will also be cycling information booths and riding demonstrations, an autograph table to get Hesjedal's signature, and numerous kid's activities, plus food and beverage vendors. The event runs until 6:30 p.m.
