900 plant grow-op nabbed in Saanich

Saanich police street crime officers busted a sizable marijuana grow-op in the 5300-block of Alderley Road, in the Cordova Ridge area, on Thursday night.

Police seized more than 900 plants from two separate grow operations on the property, one in a detached garage and the other occupying much of a house.

The street crime unit called in B.C. Hydro to disable two sophisticated power diversions going into the buildings. Police also seized several kilograms of freshly cut and dried marijuana bud.

A 51-year-old Duncan man and a 50-year-old Victoria man were arrested at the property. Both were released and are due in provincial court in October.

The men face charges of production of marijuana, production for the purpose of trafficking and theft of electricity.
