City of Victoria approves plan for old E&N station
The fate of the former E&N rail station has been sealed.
Within the next month, the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority plans to deconstruct the building and salvage some parts, such as the roof, for future developments at Ogden Point or Fisherman's Wharf.
The city approved the proposal on Sept. 25. Earlier this year, the city called out for proposals to remove and reuse the station at minimal cost to the city. One one of the proposals received complied with the city's terms.
The station is situated downtown by the east entrance to the Johnson Street Bridge. When the bridge is rebuilt, it will not include a rail bridge. The change will require a new station to be built on the western shores of the Inner Harbour, if rail service resumes.
