Roadblock-avoiding scooter driver falls, later hits two cars in downtown Victoria
A driver fell off his scooter at a police roadblock then crashed into two cars while attempting to flee on Friday morning.
Just after 1 a.m., the westbound rider approached a roadblock at Esquimalt and Harbour roads, stopped short of the officers then fell off his scooter. He then turned his scooter around and fled towards downtown, eventually colliding with a car and taxi.
The driver fled on foot, but was apprehended by VicPD officers near the Johnson Street Bridge.
A 38-year-old Victoria man spent the night in cells and was released on a promise to appear in court. He faces an impaired driving charge, and was issued violation tickets for driving without a licence and leaving the scene of a collision.
