Play highlights restorative justice
The timing is good for the play Tough Case to be shown at First Metropolitan United Church on Tuesday (Nov. 20). It falls in the middle of Restorative Justice Week in Victoria.
Written by Toronto playwright David S. Craig, the story focuses on the impact to the victim, an elderly widow, of vandalism to her home committed by a 16-year-old boy. It shows how restorative justice can play a role in helping both parties to a crime heal.
The production is directed by Diana Keating and features cast members from the local theatre community. The event is a joint effort between the church and the Victoria Restorative Justice Society. As part of the evening, a volunteer from the society will briefly explain the differences between restorative justice as presented in the play and how it is used in practice.
Suggested donation is $5. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. at First Metropolitan, corner of Quadra and Balmoral streets.
