Impaired driver slams into pole, continues driving without front tire
VicPD's call centre lit up with anxious drivers around 12:30 a.m. Monday, as several people witnessed a driver slam into a pole at the intersection of Douglas Street and Hillside Avenue, then continue driving without a front tire down the Pat Bay Highway.
When police caught up with the black Dodge Ram in the 4300-block of Crownwood Lane, its front rim was still glowing from the friction with with the pavement.
The driver had exited the vehicle and refused a breathalyzer test.
A 31-year-old View Royal man was arrested for intoxication in a public place and faces a licence suspension of 90 days and a fine for driving without due care and attention.
