Victoria tour bus parking decision may be enviro-prompt
Councillors asked staff for more information on a bylaw that would have renewed dedicated tour bus parking space for a three-year period downtown.
Members of the James Bay Neighbourhood Association had been pushing for more environmentally friendly and quieter buses, and wanted the city to use parking space allocation as an incentive to push companies to modernize their fleets.
Speakers said tour bus operators aren’t taking environmental considerations seriously.
Councillors will review the bylaw at their governance and priorities committee meeting tomorrow (March 21) and could reduce the parking space allocation to a one-year period. Council also directed staff to provide more information on an application from an electric vehicle operator.
