UPDATED: Man arrested after Langford bank robbery
Tyler Craig Edison, 37 faces a charge of robbery after a theft at the Island Savings at the corner of Langford Road and Attree Avenue yesterday morning. He's to appear in court tomorrow morning at Western Communities courthouse.
With witness descriptions and a license plate for a suspect vehicle, a 2004 Cavalier, police investigators located the vehicle on Sooke Road in Langford. After surveillance, three people were arrested later in the day. Police say only one person was involved and a man remains in police custody.
“Due to the fact that there was an outstanding firearm the South Vancouver Island Emergency Response Team attended to assist in executing a search warrant at the Sooke Road residence,” said Cpl. Kathy Rochlit
“This was an isolated incident and we were able to quickly establish the location of the getaway vehicle and the suspect involved,” said Cpl. Kathy Rochlitz of the West Shore RCMP. “We are thankful for the support of our policing partners; the Regional Crime Unit, the Emergency Response Team, IRSU, Officers from Island District, our own patrol and plainclothes units as well as our Police Dog Section. The quick response and work of all investigators helped bring this to a quick and safe resolution.”
The staff of Island Savings are being supported by Victim Services. The West Shore RCMP Major Crime Unit is continuing with this investigation, if anyone has information relating to this incident please contact West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 or Crimestoppers at 1800-222-TIPS.
West Shore RCMP are on the scene of a Langford bank robbery that happened around 11:40 this morning (Aug. 20).
Police are searching the area for a man who left the bank wearing a black balaclava and driving a black Chevrolet Cavalier. The man is described as about five foot eight inches tall and wearing a long black shirt and pants.
The man robbed the bank at gunpoint, stealing an undisclosed amount of money.
Officers can be seen bagging evidence and searching an alleyway behind the Island Savings at the corner of Jacklin Road and Attree Avenue in Langford.
"We were quick on scene, so we had the details quickly, and we've fanned out," said Cpl. Kathy Rochlitz, spokesperson for West Shore RCMP.
No staff were hurt at the branch.
"We are thankful that no one was harmed and we will be working with our team to support them," said Rod Dewar, president and CEO of Island Savings, in a press release. "Members can also take comfort in the fact that their assets are protected."
The bank will be closed until further notice.
