Victoria woman faces assault charges in bizarre incident

A 23-year-old Victoria woman is facing assault charges after Victoria police officers responded to what they initially thought was a domestic incident.

Two VicPD officers responded to reports of a woman screaming in an apartment in the 800-block of Esquimalt Rd. on Sunday night around midnight, said Const. Mike Russell.

"Officers could hear a woman screaming," Russell said. "(They) identified themselves, and then, getting no response from inside the suite, breached the door."

Once inside, police found the woman writhing on the floor, likely the result of a bad drug trip, Russell said.

"She quickly became combative with officers," he said.

The woman and her partner were transported to hospital but are expected to make a full recovery, he added.

Two VicPD officers were treated for minor injuries; the woman faces two charges of assaulting police.
