Langford Trolley strikes cyclist towing children

The Langford Trolley making a right turn struck a female cyclist travelling through the Millstream and McCallum road intersection. The woman was in the bike lane towing two young children in a bike trailer and travelling along Millstream Road. The trolley was turning right on McCallum when it hit the woman and narrowly missed the children.

"As the driver was turning the woman saw the bus and tried to get as close to the curb as possible," said Cst. Sarah Beckett, spokesperson for the West Shore RCMP.  The impact was at a "very low speed she added" and the cyclist is reported to have minor injuries.

"The two children were fine, but obviously shook up," said fire Chief Bob Beckett who attended the call.  The children's father picked them up on scene as the injured woman was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

Langford Fire Rescue was called at 10:44 a.m., Sept. 18, and arrived on scenealong with B.C. Ambulance and West Shore RCMP.

"Driver's need to be cautious of bikes and bike lanes. Situations like this can happen at the drop of a hat," said Cst. Sarah Beckett. "When you are driving down the road you need to be cautious of everything."

West Shore RCMP are still investigating.
