Country star donates big bucks to Jeneece Place
Before opening for Reba MacEntire, Gord Bamford had some business to take care of.
The country star stopped by Jeneece Place and offered a $10,000 donation to the facility. Bamford started his tour in Victoria, Oct. 8 and will be donating $10,000 a children's charity of his choice at each stop across the country.
"My own girl had complications when she was born," Bamford said. "Our family had quite the experience with children's hospitals and Ronald McDonald Houses."
His four-year old daughter Memphis, was born with an imperforate anus and the family had to travel to Calgary from their small Alberta town to have her treated.
"That's when I realized who the true heroes in life are," Bamford said.
Bamford was also inspired for all the work Jeneece Edroff, who created the vision and drive for the facility.
"I needed to come up with something bigger and better," explained Edroff and she took the musician on a tour of the 10 bedroom facility.
More than 600 families have stayed at the View Royal facility located next to Victoria General Hospital.
The money will help cover the operational costs of running Jeneece Place.
"This donation may help families who can't cover the $27 a night cost of staying here at Jeneece Place," said Margot McLearen-Moore, board chair Children's Health Foundation of Vancouver Island.
