Man killed in fall from Johnston Street Bridge
A young man is dead after he fell from the upper structure of the Johnson Street Bridge to the walkway below last night.
Victoria police were on already en route to the bridge – after a concerned resident reported several people climbing the structure – when the man fell just before midnight. Officers attempted life-saving measures, but the man died in an ambulance before reaching hospital, said VicPD Const. Mike Russell.
"A number of the people who appear to have been climbing with the deceased man were questioned, but are not co-operating with the police investigation," Russell said.
The man is believed to be between 25 and 35 years old, but police aren't yet confirming his identity.
The Johnson Street bridge reopened around 4 a.m. this morning.
