Fire damages Saanich home

Saanich fire investigators are still working to determine what caused a house fire that resulted in significant damage to a home Sunday night.

Fire crews were called to the 100-block of Obed Ave. around 9:40 p.m. When they arrived they found flames coming from the basement area of the home, and smoke coming from the upper floor.

The fire was contained and extinguished within minutes, but crews remained on scene for three hours.

Damage to the home and contents is estimated at $100,000.

No one was injured and firefighters saved a cat and rabbit from the home.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
