Saturday blaze sends one to hospital

A house fire on Saturday (Feb. 1) in the 4000-block of Townsend Dr. caused severe damage to a home, but all four occupants inside escaped without serious injury.

The Saanich Fire Department responded around 10:20 a.m. The fire appears to have started around a fireplace on the main floor of the house, quickly spreading to the kitchen and the upper floor. The cause remains unknown.

One person was taken to hospital for minor smoke inhalation. Damage to the home and contents is around $350,000.
