Man pulled from Gorge Waterway dies

Saanich Police are still on the scene where a man died after being pulled from the Gorge Waterway yesterday afternoon (Feb. 26).

Victoria Police got a call just after 3:30 p.m. about a man in the Gorge waterway who appeared to need help. When officers arrived, they saw a man on a floating dock on the north side of the Gorge Waterway, close to the Tillicum bridge. He appeared to be holding and attempting to pull another man from the water.

VICPD and paramedics helped pull the unidentified and unconscious man from the waterway.

Life saving efforts were immediately commenced and the male was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“We’re still investigating, the scene is still being held,” said Sgt. Steve Eassie, Saanich Police public information officer said this morning (Feb.27).

Saanich Police is investigating how the man, described as in his early 50s, ended up in the water.

The location is being held as possible crime scene as investigators attempt to determine what happened.
