Small Saanich house fire sends one to hospital

Just before midnight on Thursday (March 6), the Saanich Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 5900-block of Oldfield Rd.

Light smoke was seen coming from the home, and a small fire was found in a basement suite. Crews quickly extinguished the flames.

Two of the three people inside the home at the time attempted to put out the fire, sustaining minor smoke inhalation. One was sent to hospital for observation.

Damage to the home and contents is estimated at $3,000.
