Royal Roads University hosting walk/run for dads
Do it for Dad on Father’s Day is the tagline behind this Sunday’s (June 15) annual Prostate Centre fundraiser walk/run around Royal Roads University.
The event is held as a fundraiser to provide support services and treatment options for men going through prostate cancer, and to enhance prevention by providing for better diagnostic services.
It also aims to raise awareness of the importance of early detection and to simply celebrate the men in our lives.
Funds raised at the local event stay in Greater Victoria to help men living with the disease – the most commonly diagnosed male cancer in Canada – and their families.
As of Wednesday, more than 10,000 people had registered nationally online for Father’s Day runs happening across the country, through doitfordads.com and nearly $1.2 million had been pledged for prostate cancer research.
Registration for Do it For Dad starts at 8 a.m. Sunday with the kickoff at 10 a.m. Royal Roads is at 2005 Sooke Rd.
