Victoria reservist shines with Ceremonial Guard
Wearing a scarlet tunic and bearskin headdress, Aleksandra Tremblay is part of one of the most recognizable military units in Canada this summer: the Ceremonial Guard of the Canadian Armed Forces.
The Ceremonial Guard provides sentries at the National War Memorial in Ottawa and at Rideau Hall, the official residence of the Governor General. In addition, the unit also perform the Changing of the Guard on Parliament Hill.
“Having the opportunity to be a part of the Ceremonial Guard makes me proud that I can reinforce this great tradition,” Tremblay, 21, an army reservist with the 5th Field Regiment in Victoria, says.
“As a soldier it gives me the opportunity to have a great summer experience with great friends.”
Tremblay underwent three weeks of intensive drill training this spring where she mastered the precision movements, attained a high standard of dress and deportment and also underwent extensive physical fitness training.
Tremblay will also participate in Ceremonial Guard appearances around eastern Ontario and as well as the culmination event known as Fortissimo.
Fortissimo is a military and musical spectacular event that takes place on the lawns of Parliament Hill and features massed military bands, pipes and drums, guest performers and the soldiers of the Ceremonial Guard.
