Shortly after a number of suspicious fires broke out in downtown Victoria, including one at the Mustard Seed Street Church, police say an arrest has been made.

Authorities were tasked with investigating five separate fires that were lit downtown early Wednesday morning, and earlier this week arrested Michael Willman. He is charged with one count of arson, according to court documents, and remains in custody following a tele-bail hearing.

Police say additional garbage-bin fires have been reported, however, at this time investigators do not believe those incidents are related.

The Mustard Seed is Vancouver Island’s largest food bank and has been helping the community since 1975.

Anyone with information is asked to call Victoria Police at (250) 995-7654 or Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
