A cougar has been sighted in James Bay early Thursday morning.

According to Victoria police, the cougar was seen along Menzies Street around 7:05 a.m.

Anyone who sees the cougar is asked to call the non-emergency line at 250-995-7654.

There have also been reports of cougar sightings in Comox Valley.

Report of a cougar spotted between McPhee and Fitzgerald at 17 st at noon. Courtenay Elementary School has been advised.

The last time a cougar was spotted in James Bay was October 2015. Police tracked the cougar, as nearby schools were locked down as a precaution.

After being chased through backyards in the 200-blocks of Mighican, Ontario and Superior streets near the B.C. legislature for several hours, the cougar was tranquilized and relocated.
