Quadra Street was closed to traffic Monday morning after two vehicles collided and one of the drivers fled the scene, later to be apprehended by police.

Shortly after 9 a.m. witnesses say they heard a crash between a gray BMW and a blue Chevrolet Elantra. The impact of the crash was enough to deploy airbags in both vehicles and debris was seen strewn across Quadra St.

A heavy police presence blocked both the north and south lanes of traffic along Quadra between Balmoral/Fisgard to Mason St. Firefighters and ambulances were also called to the scene.

Victoria Police Const. Jessica Moretto called it “a simple motor vehicle accident.”

“One of the drivers took off from the scene and he was apprehended – he came back and he was apprehended at that time,” Moretto said on scene. “Everything else is still under investigation.”

Police do not believe anyone was seriously injured in the crash, but witnesses who appeared to be shaken up were seen being questioned by police and firefighters.

VicPD could not confirm if charges will be laid.
