A 27-year-old male Greater Victoria resident is facing assault charges after he stabbed an 18-year-old Saanich resident at a house party on Franciso Terrace at about 11:45 p.m. Saturday night.

The victim is expected to recover from non-life threatening injuries.

Cory Nguyen, 27, is currently in custody. He was arrested by Saanich Police and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team on Thursday and faces charges of assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon.

“At the time of the arrest police found several different [controlled] drugs on him,” said Det. Const. Damian Kowalewich of Saanich Police. “The drugs have been sent to the lab for examination.

Nguyen is known to police. The victim, however, is not known to police. The incident was not believed to be a drug deal, Kowalewich added.
