Saanich Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect in a hit-and-run in which a 60-year-old man was struck Monday evening.

Police report that around 7:45 p.m. on Jan. 10, a vehicle driving south on Burnside Road West struck the man while turning right onto McKenzie Avenue. The driver continued east after striking the pedestrian, who was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses described the vehicle as dark with no window tinting and a loud exhaust. The model was similar to that of a Chevrolet Cobalt, Saanich police said in a release. They urge motorists who were driving near the intersection before or after the time of the incident to check their dashcam footage for similar-looking vehicles.

“The driver would have been more than aware that they struck this man. We are urging the driver to do the right thing and come forward to the police,” said Const. Markus Anastasiades. “Officers have several investigative avenues to continue to explore, and they are confident that it will only be a matter of time before we can identify the driver.”

Those with information are asked to call Saanich police at 250-475-4321 and cite file number 22-00637.
