Saanich’s review of Local Area Plans has got the community talking.

At least that’s the hope of the district as it hosts a Saanich Talks event from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 21 in the University of Victoria’s David Lam Auditorium.

“This event officially kicks off Saanich’s Local Area Plan updates starting with Cadboro Bay and Cordova Bay and provides an exciting opportunity to begin the conversation on the future of these neighbourhoods,” said Mayor Richard Atwell. “The community-at-large is invited to learn more about the ideas and trends that are shaping cities and neighbourhoods.”

Over the next year, Saanich will work with the Cadboro Bay and Cordova Bay communities to develop plans that provide direction on topics such as housing, transportation and mobility, environment and neighbourhood villages. Attendees at this event can learn more about how they can get involved in the Local Area Plan updates and other current Saanich projects.

During Wednesday night’s free event, speaker Gordon Price will explore ideas for creating local areas with thriving neighbourhood villages, diverse housing options and greater social inclusion. Originally from Victoria, Price is a Fellow with the Simon Fraser University Centre for Dialogue and a former six-term Vancouver councillor.

The event will include informational displays about several Saanich initiatives, including the Cadboro Bay Local Area Plan update; Cordova Bay Local Area Plan update; garden suites study; active transportation plan; 100 per cent Renewable & Resilient Saanich Plan; and biodiversity.
