TONIGHT: Municipal budget to be discussed at town hall meeting

The 2019 Draft Financial Plan has a proposed operating budget of $244.7 million

Tonight Victoria residents can share their opinions on this year’s municipal budget.

A Town Hall meeting is scheduled to begin at Victoria City Hall at 6:30 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m.

The Draft Financial Plan has been available since mid December, and outlines a $244.7 million budget, with a capital budget of $118 million for 2019.

Some of the largest proposed expenditures include the Victoria Police Department budget, infrastructural upgrades to underground utilities, the new Crystal Pool facility, a new fire hall for the Victoria Fire Department and the continued construction of the Victoria bike network.

It also includes a proposed overall tax increase of 4.3 per cent.
