LETTER: Let the windstorm serve as a readiness warning

Send your letters to editor@saanichnews.com

I hope that terrible windstorm of Dec. 20 is a wakeup call to all those unprepared for ‘The Big One’.

Only the power went out and some roads got blocked.

Imagine if not only your power went out but water, sewer, gas supply and part of your house collapsed so you had to sleep outside?

What if great stretches of the roads were upheaved and impassable and there was no one to help you for a week?

What if the hospitals are filled with the injured and maimed but no ambulance can get to you with your compound fracture?

All of those are real possibilities and not being prepared for a little power outage is nothing compared to it.

Take a lesson from last week’s really small example of what can happen.
