Start paying now for light-rail system
Re: Light-rail funding choice awaits governance deal (News, July 4)
I don’t very often find myself taking opposite positions from my mayor, Frank Leonard, but on this issue I am. He is totally wrong about only taxing future users of the proposed light-rail transit system.
This kind of thinking is one of the reasons why we are in the situation we are in today. We have failing infrastructure everywhere and our empty bank account prevents us from maintaining and/or overhauling it as needed, rather than when we have the cash.
This is an investment in our community and we should start to save for it today.
It will be expensive, for sure, and we will be in a better position going forward if we have the largest down payment possible to get it going.
