LETTER: A reckless, dangerous bill

Canadians must stand up to Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s reckless and dangerous Bill C51.

Victoria MPs  Murray Rankin, Randall Garrison and Elizabeth May have held the government to account, but they need our help to keep the fight going.

We, the electorate, must continue to do our part by supporting our MPs: writing letters, signing petitions, holding townhall meetings and gathering for peaceful, non- violent protests to end C51.

The Harper regime is ramming it through without any substantive changes that would include parliamentary oversight- like all other democracies that have anti-terror legislation.

This bill will erode Canadian rights and freedoms to the point that peaceful protests, strikes, etc. will become outlawed and you could be deemed a terrorist.

The government will be conducting mass surveillance on all Canadians, sharing private, personal information with various government agencies and foreign governments.

This outrageous, reckless and dangerous bill must be stopped now! On Oct. 19, send Harper a clear message – and vote him out! and completely decimate the Conservative Party into oblivion.

Let’s send our politicians a clear message, End Bill C-51 NOW!

Raymond Kriltz, Victoria
