Wade Murphy named to BCHL first all-star team
Wade Murphy’s all-star status is listed as a member of the Penticton Vees, and maybe that’s just as well.
The Saanich bred hockey cracked the league’s first team all-star roster, one of 11 Vees dominating the first, second and all-rookie teams released on Tuesday (March 13).
Murphy provides Victoria fans with a tangible connection to the 2011-12 Vees, a legend in the making.
The Vees ended the season by setting the Canadian junior A and B.C. Hockey League records with 42 straight wins. Murphy was part of the Vees high-powered offence, finishing as one of seven Vees in the top-10 of scoring.
Some might feel Murphy should be listed as a Victoria Grizzlies’ all-star, however.
The ex-Saanich Brave was fourth in BCHL scoring with 22 goals and 62 points in 38 games when the Victoria Grizzlies traded him to the Vees at the deadline.
In 22 games with the Vees, Murphy scored another 29 points, totaling 36 goals and 55 assists for 91 points in 60 games.
Analysts from across the country have already pencilled the Vees in as RBC Cup champions. Penticton face the Chilliwack Chiefs in round one of the BCHL playoffs, starting today (March 16).
Former Grizzlies forward Graeme McCormack of the Nanaimo Clippers was named to the second all-star team.
