Wolves howling for third place finish
Holding steady in third place in the league, the WestShore Wolves are excited of the successful inaugural season.
As of Jan. 22 the team was soaring on a five-game winning streak. The results of the Jan. 23 game against the Victoria Cougars were not available at the time of the **Gazette's deadline.
The Wolves have already secured a spot in the finals, but still have another five regular season games to play.
"It's been a really competitive season with a lot of parody," said general manager Ken Carson.
There are nine teams in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League and the top eight will make the playoffs this year.
Carson said the team's ultimate goal is to keep it's third place standing.
Before the Wolves, the junior B team on the West Shore was the Stingers and it never made the playoffs. The Wolves owners bought the right to have the franchise on the West Shore and have been able to revive junior B hockey.
"We've got all of our 23 players are buying into out system," Carson said. "We are having a lot of scoring on all our lineups."
Carson credits the team's strong players in goaltending, forwards and defence to the successful season.
"We still have a few bumps but out goals have helped us make up for it," Carson said.
The teams next home game is on Jan. 30 against Kerry Park Islanders at Bear Mountain Arena at 7:30 p.m.
