Victoria's New Year's Baby Is First On The Island

Victoria's first baby of 2009 was also the first born on Vancouver Island. Matilde Liv Hammer-Coots was born at at 2:48 AM in Victoria General Hospital beating out a child born in Nanaimo at 4:43 AM. Matilde is the first child for Sooke couple Kristil Hammer and Colin Coutts. more

New Years' Levees Annual Event

Victoria residents had their choice of annual New Year's Day Levees to attend with events at places as diverse as Victoria City Hall, Government House and the Maritime Museum. Most other municipalities in the Greater Victoria area also held levees. more
