City hires economic development officer

Sage Baker, founder and CEO of Q5 Innovations, begins new job on June 3.

The City of Victoria has moved to improve its ability to grow the regional economy and attract new business to the city.

Sage Baker, founder and CEO of Q5 Innovations, which helps develop and commercialize new technologies, has taken on a two-year contract with the city as executive director of economic development. Among her roles will be to support the downtown retail sector and implementation of the downtown core area plan, and to work with business agencies around the region on economic development initiatives.

Baker was formerly in the pharmaceutical industry, serving as vice-president of global corporate and investor relations for Aspreva.

She starts June 3.
