Bridges, Not Walls raises more than $22,000

Event included keynote speech by Kim Campbell, the country’s only female prime minister

An event that helps provide counselling services for women who have gone through trauma has raised more than $22,000.

Bridges for Women’s symposium called Bridges, Not Walls, which took place Saturday, March 25 at the Victoria Conference Centre, raised $22,250.

The event included speakers such as Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps, MLA Carole James, and School District 61 board chair Edith Loring-Kuhanga, with the keynote address by Kim Campbell, the country’s only female prime minister.

Funds raised go towards Bridges programs such as the professional trauma counselling services for women and the W’SANEC First Nations programs offered on reserve.

The symposium was held on the U.N.’s Orange Day to Unite to End Violence Against Women and also celebrated the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote in B.C.
