Foodies rejoice!

Taste, a food and wine festival, is set to take place from July 24 to 27.

The sixth annual festival begins at 6 p.m. with Taste the Difference, hosted at the Hotel Grand Pacific, 463 Belleville St. The tasting event will be attended by 30 wineries, pouring more than 100 varieties of B.C. grown wine, as well as chefs from across the Island who will be showcasing their own locally-sourced dishes.

Other events featured in the festival will be centred on sustainable seafood, wine pairing, B.C. cheese, and pig roasting.

Taste will conclude with Everything is Better with Bacon, a three-course dinner featuring bacon in each dish, at the Robert Bateman Centre, 470 Belleville St., July 27 at 6 p.m.

Founder and producer Kathy McAree calls Taste “a festival with a conscious,” as each meal served will be based on local and sustainable ingredients.

“Local and sustainable food is a big part of the culture and economy in Victoria,” McAree said. “We need to know what’s going on in our backyard so we can do what’s best for our city. Plus, that’s what tastes the best.”

McAree, best known as host of the radio show In Good Taste, launched the festival in 2009.

Tickets range from $19 to $99 and are available online at <victoriataste.com>
