Walkers hunt for the rare, or unexpected, in Uplands Park on Saturday

Birders could catch images of their favourite feathered animals, such as this mourning dove, with a walk in Oak Bay's Uplands Park on July 27.

Avid ornithologists or newbie birdwatchers are welcome to seek out treasures in an Oak Bay park lead by a Greater Victoria bird expert.

Friends of Uplands Park volunteer Geoffrey Newell is known for spotting the unexpected, having documented a female orchard oriole, rare to the region, in November 2023.

Newell leads monthly walks in the vast, and wildly popular with birds, Uplands Park in Oak Bay. The two- to three-hour walk general yields between 50 and 70 species spotted.

Newell's next monthly walk is July 27 at 9 a.m.

Those looking to join the fun can meet in the main parking lot at Cattle Point.
