Let Lynda connect you with thousands of links to enlightenment.

The Greater Victoria Public Library has just launched Lynda.com, an e-learning platform for GVPL cardholders that connects them to thousands of videos taught by experts in their field.

Users can access Lynda.com by logging on with their library card numbers for more than 6,300 courses and 267,000 video tutorials that allow people to learn computer skills at their own pace from any Internet-enabled device.

The self-directed training is available at any time of day or night for those who want to learn more about computers, software, business, management, design, calligraphy and a host of other topics.

It provides the community access to a quality online learning tool that will enable people to upgrade and enhance their professional skills, said GVPL CEO Maureen Sawa.

“With Lynda, learning can happen anytime, anywhere there’s Internet access,” Sawa said. “It’s one more way the library is extending our reach, bridging the digital divide, and supporting lifelong learning for our patrons. This is another example of how we are supporting 21st century skill development in Greater Victoria.”

While Lynda.com is available independently in the range of $20 to $30, there is no cost for the service for GVPL cardholders.

Eileen Fedderly, branch supervisor at the GVPL’s Goudy and Langford Heritage branches, said they already have people coming in to sign up with Lynda.com in mind.

Lynda.com complements GVPL’s growing suite of digital services, which includes online databases, consumer reports, BC Codes, streaming movies, music language learning and downloadable ebooks and audio books.

GVPL cardholders can get started by visiting gvpl.ca and clicking on Lynda.com on the home page and then logging in using their library card bar code and password. Otherwise, drop by any GVPL branch and sign up for a card.
