Masseurs needed for Victoria’s FernFest event this weekend

Local therapist to provide instruction, funds raised from massages go to neighbourhood

Registered massage therapist Roxanne Derkson is calling for volunteers to do a quick 15-minute training session in time for this weekend’s FernFest neighbourhood celebration in Victoria.

Derkson is ultimately raising funds for the Fernwood Neighbourhood Resource Group, by setting up a tent at the festival on Saturday (June 23) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and offering “affordable” massages for $5 to people who might not be able to otherwise pay full price for a treatment.

Volunteer masseurs can find a training video at www.vivitherapy.com by looking under Massage School, then clicking on Learn to Massage Classes (Free). A final, hands-on training session will be offered on Friday. Call 250-298-4484 for further details.

FernFest runs Friday from 5 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Entertainment, food and other family friendly activities are planned. For more information visit fernwoodnrg.ca.
